Gentle Joints

Joint work is good for everyone.

In practices such as Tai Chi and Qigong – a lot of focus on the joints and even some schools will do joint routines as their focus. And there is a reason for this.

In acupuncture and other energetic healing modalities the goal is to get the energy flow to be more balanced and more freely flowing through the body in order that the body’s own natural healing ability will be restored. So the idea is that when energy is blocked, our body cannot easily resolve issues. But when the energy is flowing well, actually our bodies are generally very efficient and effective at healing themselves.

In addition, when your energy is balanced and open and freely flowing, your mood can improve! You can feel more relaxed and just overall a greater sense of well-being. So the body has natural mood regulation as well if we take care of it.

The joints in the body are complex bone structures where your energy can easily get trapped. For instance, you can imagine that energy flows easily through the straightness of the forearm but might get tangled up in the obstacles presented by the bone structure of the wrists. Also consider joints like in the fingers. When we bend a joint, we are temporarily cutting the full energy flow. Not that it’s a bad thing! Because when you bend and obstruct, like a rock in the river the water will pile up and then when the rock is removed a greater amount of water will flow through until is equalizes back to normal. So, the body is designed well, but we just need to learn how to work with it.

And, when we move and rotate our joints, we can freeing up the trapped energies to flow more freely through the body. Joint routines are great for anyone, even those who not having issues with their joints.
